On Friday (August 7) morning, he said these things at an event of the TV Editors Council.
Mirza Fakhrul said, ‘Three or four months have not passed, and we have taken to the streets. Claiming the government has failed and saying we will not let them work for five years—this kind of language is the language of fascists.’
Criticising Awami League, he said, ‘Awami League has no relationship with democracy. They spoke about democracy with their mouths, but did exactly the opposite.’ He further said, ‘Sheikh Hasina used the name of democracy to destroy democracy itself. They also dismantled the democratic institutions.’
The BNP Secretary General said, ‘It took the Western countries a thousand years to establish sustainable democracy. But we become impatient.’ He further said, ‘We all want a wonderful media to exist, and discussion and criticism will continue. However, listening to talk-show discussions, one feels that the government is extremely failed and the country has been destroyed. If the media is strong, only then will democracy be sustainable.’
