State will be strong only if people are economically strong: PM
Prime Minister Tareq Rahman said the government’s main objective is to take the country to an economically and socially strong position. He said ensuring people’s economic capability alongside political rights is essential. For this, the government will provide all kinds of policy support to encourage domestic entrepreneurs to invest and create employment.

He made these remarks as the chief guest at the signing ceremony of lease agreements for three closed state-owned jute mills to two private organizations, held in the Cabinet Division meeting room of the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (August 11).

The Prime Minister said, ‘If people’s economic capacity is ensured, the state becomes strong. No state can become strong by keeping ordinary people in poverty or silencing them.’

He promised to stand beside the country’s genuine entrepreneurs and said if entrepreneurs are supported, it will create employment and livelihood security on one hand and improve the overall economy on the other.

The Prime Minister said, ‘We want to build a country where everyone will be better off than now—that is our main goal.’

Highlighting the importance of domestic investment alongside foreign investment, he said foreign investment will come and the government wants it; however, domestic entrepreneurs must also be encouraged. The government will provide the necessary policy support for business and investment.

Referring to the main objective of the government’s policy as creating opportunities for people of all classes and professions in society, the Prime Minister said the government is working to build a beautiful and strong country with everyone’s cooperation.

At the event, Commerce, Industries and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandoker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, Textiles and Jute Secretary Sharf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of Pran-RFL Group Ahsan Khan Chowdhury and Managing Director of Hamko Group ATM Mostafa spoke. Senior officials of BJMC and the lessee organizations were also present.
