After being released on parole, Golam Hasnain Russell, a leader of the banned Awami League and general secretary of Bhangura Upazila Awami League, attended his mother's janaza. On Friday at 9:30 am, under tight security, he went to his home in the Bhangura municipality area in a police vehicle. There, seeing his mother's body kept in a freezer van for the last time, he broke down in tears. Later, after exchanging greetings with family members, he performed ablution, changed clothes, and attended the janaza at Bhangura Union School and College ground.
In a brief speech before the janaza, he sought prayers for his mother and apologized to local residents on behalf of the family. After the janaza, he took part in his mother's burial at Par-Bhangura cemetery under police escort. Later, he was taken back to jail.

Russell's mother, Nurjahan Rekha, died Thursday at BIRDEM Hospital in Dhaka. She had been suffering from kidney disease for a long time. Russell was arrested on July 20 and was in jail in an explosive case. Although the Pabna District Court granted him bail on Wednesday on an application citing his mother's illness, he was shown arrested in another case at Chatmohar police station. Later, the deputy commissioner released him on parole.
