Justice A K M Asaduzzaman appointed new ACC chairman, two commissioners named

On Monday (August 17), the Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard. Later it was published as a gazette. According to the ACC Act, the tenure of the new chairman and the two commissioners will be five years.

The notification said that under sub-section (1) of section 6 of the 'Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004', Justice A K M Asaduzzaman, Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan have been appointed as commissioners.

Under sub-section (1) of section 5 of the same Act, Justice A K M Asaduzzaman has been made chairman of the commission.

Same status as Appellate Division judges

As ACC chairman, Justice A K M Asaduzzaman will enjoy the same rank, salary, allowances and other facilities as a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, the two new commissioners, Dr Jahangir Alam Khan and Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, will enjoy the same rank, salary, allowances and other facilities as judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.

Three ACC posts had fallen vacant

Earlier, on March 3, ACC chairman Mohammad Abdul Momen and commissioners Mia Muhammad Ali Akbar Azizi and Brigadier General (retd) Hafiz Ahsan Farid resigned. As a result, all three posts of the commission fell vacant.

Later, on June 22, a selection committee was formed with Justice Md Rezaul Haque of the Appellate Division as president to make recommendations for appointing the ACC chairman and commissioners.

According to law, the Anti-Corruption Commission consists of three commissioners. One of them is appointed chairman, and each commissioner serves a five-year term.

The selection committee was tasked with preparing a list of two names against each vacant commissioner post and submitting it to the President. Later, resumes (CVs) were invited from those interested in the posts of chairman and commissioner.
