Dhaka wants 'reset' in relations with Delhi

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the first condition is—sending back to Bangladesh the fugitive criminals staying in India, including Sheikh Hasina, under the bilateral extradition treaty. The second condition is handing over to Bangladesh those accused in the murder of Sharif Osman Bin Hadi. Dhaka is awaiting India's response on these matters.

Bangladesh's such position has created surprise in Delhi. According to analysts, there are various important issues between the two countries, including water, border and energy; regular talks are needed to resolve them.

According to former diplomat M Humayun Kabir, Bangladesh wants to move away from the old relationship framework and reorganize the relationship anew. In this regard, Dhaka is emphasizing the 'Bangladesh First' policy.
