Death penalty upheld for two accused in Nusrat murder case, life imprisonment for four

On Monday (August 24), a High Court bench comprising Justice Bhishmadev Chakraborty and Justice K.M. Rasheduzzaman Raja delivered the verdict on the death references, appeals and jail appeals of the accused.

Earlier, on October 24, 2019, Feni's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Md. Mamunur Rashid delivered the verdict in the Nusrat murder case. In that verdict, all 16 accused, including sacked principal of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasah Siraj Uddaula, were sentenced to death. In addition, each accused was fined Tk 1 lakh.

As a result of the High Court's verdict, among the 16 accused, the death sentence of two was upheld, the sentences of four were reduced to life imprisonment, and ten were acquitted.
