Kazi Nazrul Islam Inspired All Major Movements: Rizvi
BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said the songs, poems and writings of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam have inspired people to protest and resist during various mass movements in Bangladesh. His songs also inspired young people during the July uprising, he added.

Rizvi made the remarks while paying tribute at Kazi Nazrul Islam’s grave on the Dhaka University campus on Thursday (August 27), marking the 50th death anniversary of the national poet.

He said young people and teenagers took to the streets singing Nazrul’s songs during the Liberation War, the anti-autocracy movement of the 1990s and the mass uprising of July 2024. Nazrul’s literature has taught people to stand against fascism, oppression, persecution and injustice, he added.

Rizvi said Nazrul’s songs, poems and writings continue to give people courage to protest against any conspiracy against Bangladesh’s independence and sovereignty. His powerful writings also served as a strong voice against social injustice, inequality and discrimination, he said.

Highlighting Nazrul’s literary contributions, the BNP leader said the poet made significant contributions to almost every branch of literature. He worked extensively in poetry, novels, short stories and music, among other fields. He composed nearly 4,000 songs, most of which he also set to music himself.
