In that fire on August 9, 16 Bangladeshi workers were killed. Saudi authorities identified 9 of the deceased through fingerprint testing. Among the deceased, 7 are from Atrai upazila of Naogaon, one from Noldanga of Natore, and one from Bagmara of Rajshahi.
At the airport, Expatriates' Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam received the bodies. Later, they briefed journalists.
The Expatriates' Welfare Minister said that each family of the deceased will be given 35 thousand taka for transporting and burying the bodies and 3 lakh taka as a one-time financial grant. That is, each family will receive a total of 3 lakh 35 thousand taka in assistance. Arrangements have also been made to send the bodies to their respective village homes in ambulances of the Wage Earners Welfare Board.
The DNA testing process is ongoing to identify the other seven. Samples have been collected from relatives, and efforts are underway to quickly return their bodies to the country, said those concerned.
