Case filed over exhumation of Pir Shameem's remains

Police said, around 12:30am on Saturday, Shameem's elder brother Fazlur Rahman filed the case at Daulatpur police station alleging desecration of the body. Unknown persons were named accused.

Earlier, allegations were raised that on Friday night, Shameem's remains were exhumed from a graveyard at Filipnagar Daroga's Mor area of the upazila and buried at the Darbar Sharif premises. Later on Saturday, on the administration's initiative, the grave at the Darbar premises was dug up, the remains were recovered and reburied in the original graveyard.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said an investigation is underway to identify who dug up the grave and took the remains to Darbar Sharif. Police are working to bring those involved and suspects to justice.

Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Pradip Kumar Das said Shameem's remains were not found after digging the old grave. Later, following the decision of senior officials, the remains at the Darbar were recovered and buried in the original graveyard.

It is to be noted that on April 11, attacks, vandalism and arson took place at Shameem's Darbar Sharif centering on allegations of desecration of the Holy Quran. At that time he was killed in an attack by an agitated mob. The next day, after an autopsy, he was buried in a local graveyard.
