In response to a question in the National Parliament on Thursday (10 September), Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman said that voter registration and NID issuance activities have already started in 27 Bangladeshi missions in 17 countries.

He said that in missions where e-passports have been introduced, there are arrangements for online applications, the opportunity to provide biometric data at a convenient time, and to know the progress of the application. However, although embassies accept applications, passports are issued by the Department of Immigration and Passports in Dhaka.

Initiatives have been taken to send technically skilled teams from Dhaka under a special program to quickly resolve passport-related problems of expatriates in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

In addition, online attestation and e-Apostille have been introduced to facilitate consular services. An initiative has been taken to launch an integrated online system in the 2026-27 fiscal year to facilitate verification of passport, visa, and birth-death registration information. Online complaint management has also been introduced in every Bangladeshi mission.
