Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman Minu said that Rajshahi New Govt. Degree College is one of the best educational institutions in Rajshahi as well as the country. Many talented alumni who emerged from this institution have left their mark of talent in national and international arenas and are making important contributions to the country's development.

He said these things in his chief guest speech after inaugurating the registration activities on the occasion of the reunion of the Dhaka-based HSC Alumni Association of New Govt. Degree College at Hare Road in the capital on Friday (11 September).

The Land Minister said that meritorious students of New Govt. Degree College in the past secured places in the merit list in the HSC examination and achieved glorious results. He also said that the government has multifaceted initiatives for the development of the country's education system, preventing dropouts, and supporting lagging behind and economically insolvent students.

The Land Minister respectfully recalled the contribution of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, especially in women's education and the overall expansion of education.

He said New Govt. Degree College has currently stepped into its 58th year. In the coming days, initiatives will be taken to organize a diamond jubilee festival on a large scale with former students staying at home and abroad. At the same time, he assured all-out cooperation to advance the college's infrastructural renovation work.

At the event, the Land Minister prayed for the forgiveness and peace of the souls of the college's teachers and students who have died from its establishment until now.

The event was presided over by the college's Principal Professor Dr. Shikha Sarker, and Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury was present as an invited guest. The welcome speech was delivered by Member of Parliament for Rajshahi-3 constituency and chief patron of the HSC Alumni Association of New Govt. Degree College, Advocate Mohammad Shafiqul Haque Milon.

Besides, officials of various government and non-government offices, former students and teachers of the college, and media personnel were present at the event.

It may be mentioned that the reunion program of the HSC Alumni Association of New Govt. Degree College will be held on 26 December next.
