Whether MPO-enlisted teachers can participate in elections, EC to decide

Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Sunday, he said there is no mandatory educational qualification for local government elections. However, the authority to decide on the candidacy of MPO-enlisted teachers rests with the Election Commission.

Earlier, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed had said that MPO-enlisted teachers, loan defaulters and guarantors cannot be candidates in local government elections. Even if utility bills remain unpaid, candidacy may be cancelled.
