BRICS summit: Prime Minister not invited with due dignity: Speaker
The Speaker said, Bangladesh is not yet a member of BRICS. Discussions are also ongoing about the country becoming a partner. However, the government's policy regarding joining BRICS is not yet clear.
Regarding Bangladesh's relations with India, Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said that India granting asylum to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has created ‘reservation’ among the people of Bangladesh. However, Bangladesh wants to maintain friendly relations with India. He remarked that this relationship should be based on equality and mutual respect.

The Speaker also informed that discussions are ongoing among political parties on various reforms, including implementation of the July Charter. He said that if the government and opposition parties can reach a consensus on reforms, it will be possible to take initiatives for enacting necessary laws and amending the constitution in the next session of Parliament.
