On Thursday (September 17), speaking at a ‘Meet the Reporters’ event organized at Dhaka Reporters Unity, he said that freedom does not mean writing whatever one wants against anyone. It is important to verify the truth of information when publishing news.
The Press Secretary said that the current government is in favor of press freedom. However, along with freedom there must also be responsibility. Various information is often spread against individuals on social media without verification, and we must come out of this.
He called for emphasis on regular fact-checking in every media outlet to prevent misinformation. He suggested regularly publishing or broadcasting special reports or programs on whether the day's important information in print, electronic, mobile and citizen journalism is true or false—on this issue.
Speaking about the limits of media freedom, he said that freedom has a boundary. That boundary will not be determined by the government or an individual; the court will determine it.
At the event, presided over by Dhaka Reporters Unity President Abu Saleh Akon, the organization's General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel and other leaders were present.
