Arrears for government employees under new pay scale, to receive from July 1
The government has published the gazette of the National Pay Scale 2026 for government employees. Since the new pay scale is considered effective from July 1, 2026, government employees will also receive as arrears the pay for the period before the gazette publication.

On Saturday (September 19), the gazette was published. Earlier, on Thursday (September 17), an order in this regard was issued from Implementation-1 Subdivision of the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance.

According to the gazette, the new pay scale will not be implemented fully at once but will be implemented in phases. From July 1 to December 31, 2026, employees in grade 9 and above will receive 40 percent of the difference between their current and new pay, and employees in grades 10 to 20 will receive 50 percent.

In the next phase, from January 1 to June 30, 2027, these rates will be 70 percent and 75 percent respectively. Then, from July 1, 2027, under the National Pay Scale 2026, the basic pay will be fully effective along with annual increment.

The gazette said that government employees will receive as arrears the pay for the period from July 1, 2026 to the date of issuance of the order. However, in determining dues for this period, the amount of special benefits already received will be adjusted.

Pensioners will also receive arrears

Under the new pay scale, benefits for pensioners will also increase in phases. From July 1 to December 31, 2026, 40 percent of the increase for net pensions of Tk 20,001 and above and 50 percent of the increase for net pensions from Tk 1 to Tk 20,000 will be given.

In the first six months of 2027, these rates will be 70 percent and 75 percent respectively. From July 1, 2027, the new net pension will be effective at the full rate. Retired and lifetime family pensioners will also receive arrears for the period from July 1 to the date of gazette publication.

Allowances to increase in 2028

Even though the new pay scale is implemented, festival allowance, Bengali New Year allowance and other allowances will continue to be given at the rates of June 30, 2026 until December 31, 2027. From January 1, 2028, allowances will be given according to the new pay scale.

Meanwhile, with the implementation of the National Pay Scale 2026, special benefits will be considered abolished. The amount of special benefits received from July 1 to the date of gazette publication will be adjusted against the arrears of pay.
