Government is working to restore and beautify Dhaka’s canals

He said this while inspecting Jirani Canal in the Nandipara area of the capital on Sunday (September 27) afternoon. State Minister for Railways and Roads, Transport and Highways Division Habibur Rashid Habib was present at the time.

Mir Shahe Alam said retaining walls and walkways will be built as needed on both banks of 26 canals of Dhaka South City and 29 canals of North City. This will prevent illegal occupation and increase opportunities for city dwellers to move and recreate.

He said an initiative has been taken to treat the sewage of Dhaka metropolis and discharge it into rivers. The committee formed for this has started working at the field level. He said that along with government initiatives, the cooperation of city dwellers is also needed to build a clean, safe and livable Dhaka step by step.

State Minister Habibur Rashid said a clean and livable city must be built by resolving waterlogging in Dhaka. He called on the media to play a responsible role in creating civic awareness in this work.

DSCC Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Md. Abdus Salam said the goal is to deliver the benefits of the government’s initiatives taken for public welfare to the people by implementing them.

At that time, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar sought cooperation from the local residents. He said that to build a beautiful and livable Dhaka, citizens’ awareness and active participation are essential alongside government initiatives.
