On Tuesday, he said this in his speech as chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Cardiac Society at a hotel in Dhaka on the occasion of ‘World Heart Day 2026’.
The health minister said that no warning signs or symptoms of heart disease should be ignored. Since the death rate from heart disease is high among non-communicable diseases, there is no alternative to public awareness for its prevention and control.
He said that although people are aware of heart disease, many times they do not apply that awareness in real life. In the case of heart disease, such neglect can be risky.
Praising doctors, Sardar Sakhawat Hossain said that during the coronavirus pandemic, dengue, and various disasters, doctors and health workers served people without thinking about their own safety. Their sense of responsibility is exemplary.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Education Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Hasan, Assistant Personal Physician to the Prime Minister Dr. A N M Manowarul Kadir, and others concerned were present at the event. The session was presided over by Convener of the Bangladesh Cardiac Society Professor Dr. Mohammad Safiuddin.
Earlier, the minister formally inaugurated World Heart Day by releasing balloons on the premises of BMU Super Specialized Hospital and took part in a rally organized there.
