UK to provide duty-free benefits on 92 percent of Bangladesh's goods even after LDC graduation
British High Commissioner to Dhaka Sarah Cooke has said that even after graduation from the list of least developed countries (LDCs), duty-free benefits on 92 percent of Bangladesh's products will remain in the UK market for three years.

She said this while speaking on the second day of the Bay of Bengal Conversation-2026 at a hotel in the capital on Sunday (October 4). Currently, 99.8 percent of Bangladesh's products receive duty-free benefits in the UK market.

Sarah Cooke said Bangladesh is a strategic and trusted partner of the UK. The economic relationship between the two countries is also strong. British companies are contributing to investment and employment in Bangladesh in various sectors including finance, fashion, education and energy.

She said the UK is working to make Bangladesh's LDC graduation smooth and sustainable. In this regard, trade benefits will continue through the Developing Countries Trading Scheme.

The British High Commissioner also noted that the two countries share common interests in security cooperation, economic and cyber security, and addressing climate risks. She also said that the attention of the international community must be maintained for the safe, voluntary and dignified repatriation of the Rohingyas.

Regarding the impacts of climate change, Sarah Cooke said rising sea levels, changing weather patterns and the effects of extreme weather are already visible in Bangladesh. Cooperation between the two countries on this issue needs to continue.

She said these things at a three-day international conference organized by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS).
