They were arrested after locals became suspicious in the Malik Super Market area of the upazila on Sunday (October 4). Police said a gang of eight had been collecting money from people using the name of a madrasa for quite some time.
When the forgery came to light, locals chased the gang. At that time, five escaped, but three were detained and the police were informed. Later, Damurhuda Police Station police took them to the station.
Police said a mobile phone number of a person named ‘Nazmul Hossain Biplob’ was found in the fake receipt books recovered from the arrested persons. An operation is underway to arrest the five who fled.
