The body was recovered on Thursday morning, October 8. A gamcha was wrapped around her neck. Police also recovered a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw and a vanity bag from the scene. Investigators suspect that she may have been strangled to death.
According to family members, Tajmin had left home four days earlier, saying she was going to a friend’s house. She later travelled to Cox’s Bazar. On her way back, she got off at Paduar Bazar in Cumilla and sent her father her live location the night before the incident, asking him to come and take her home.
Local residents said rice plants near the auto-rickshaw in the field were scattered, with signs suggesting a possible struggle. A resident later discovered the body and called the national emergency service at 999.
Police said the investigation is underway using the registration details of the auto-rickshaw as a lead. Tajmin’s body was sent to the morgue at Cumilla Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Her father has filed a murder case against unidentified individuals.
Tajmin was a seventh-grade student at Farida Bidyayatan in Cumilla city. Police are investigating how she ended up in the isolated paddy field after returning from Cox’s Bazar, who was with her, and what led to her death.
