Special security measures for Dr. Yunus in the United States on the Prime Minister's instructions

On the instructions of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, in addition to the regular protocol as a former head of government, this additional security was ensured for the duration of his stay.

When Dr. Yunus arrived in the United States last Monday afternoon, some leaders and activists of the US branch of the Awami League, whose activities are banned, harassed him at JFK Airport. When anger and condemnation spread over the incident, on the instructions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington informed the US State Department and the New York City Police. Strongly condemning the incident, the government said that a group of individuals linked to the banned organization was behind the harassment.

Consul General Mohammad Mozammel Haque Peter of the Bangladesh Consulate in New York said that due to a lack of prior information, there was initially a slight gap in protocol at the airport. However, immediately after learning of the matter, the necessary security was ensured quickly on the Prime Minister's instructions. Currently, he is at a program in another state outside New York, and constant contact is being maintained with the relevant authorities. In addition, a written complaint has been lodged with the local diplomatic police and the Port Authority regarding the harassment at the airport, and action is awaited.
