On Friday (October 16), he said these things while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar organized by the Ministry of Agriculture at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council in Farmgate, the capital, on the occasion of World Food Day-2026. Agriculture Secretary Md. Selim Khan presided over the event.
The agriculture minister said that market management of farmers' produce is one of the biggest problems in the country's agriculture sector. Sometimes, after excessive production, goods spoil due to lack of storage, and sometimes when supply in the market decreases, consumers have to buy at higher prices. As a result, farmers are often deprived of fair prices for their produce.
Citing the example of tomatoes, he said that failing to get a fair price during the peak season, farmers' tomatoes spoil in the fields, while at other times they are sold at higher prices. The government is giving importance to changing this situation and building a stable market system.
He informed that there is a plan to create a complete digital database of which farmer is producing how much produce. Through this, it will be possible to improve production, storage and marketing management according to demand.
Emphasizing safe food production, the agriculture minister said that demand for organic and non-GMO products is increasing in the international market. Although 100 percent organic farming is challenging, pesticide-free and safe food production is possible. The participation of young entrepreneurs in agriculture is also encouraging.
He also informed about the government's policy decision to provide a one-time honorarium to innovative scientists and their teams and a lifetime special honorarium to the main innovator, in order to encourage innovation in agricultural research. At the same time, the agriculture minister called upon everyone to work together to protect soil health and face the challenges of climate change.
