Four, including police constable, arrested while trying to sell snatched motorcycle on Facebook

On the night of last Tuesday (October 20), Khulshi Thana Police arrested them in raids in the city's Bayezid Link Road, Pahartali and Sitakunda areas. The arrested police member, Anik Das (27), is working at the Bandarban District Police Lines.

The other three arrested are—Wahid Mohammad Zebal Hossain alias Anik Wahid (39), Mohiuddin Selim (52) and Mohammad Wahid Nasir alias Diamond (38). Police said that on the night of October 16, a young man named Marufur Rahman Apu, along with his friends, was going to Cox's Bazar by motorcycle when he was snatched in the Khulshi Foyez Lake area. The miscreants beat him, snatched the motorcycle, forcibly put him in a car, took him to Bayezid's Shershah area, snatched his mobile phone and left him there.

A few days after the incident, a post was made from a Facebook ID named ‘Ahomi’ to sell the snatched motorcycle. Learning of the matter, victim Marufur contacted posing as a buyer and also sent Tk 5,000 in advance. Later, on Tuesday night, when he came to hand it over in front of the police box at the mouth of Bayezid Link Road, constable Anik Das was caught in a police trap. Based on information he provided, the other three were arrested and two more motorcycles used in the crime were recovered.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulshi Thana Md. Kamruzzaman said that a case was filed in this incident on charges of abduction, robbery and keeping stolen goods, and the accused were sent to court.
