Imam gets life imprisonment for raping child student in Jamalpur

The convicted Musa Mia is a resident of Harichandi village in Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha. He used to teach Arabic at a maktab in addition to serving as imam at a Jame Mosque in the Sanandabari Mandalpara area of Dewanganj upazila. According to the case statement, on November 28, 2020, after the maktab ended, Musa Mia dismissed the other students and made the girl student clean the mosque. That day, he raped her under the promise of marriage. Similarly, rapes occurred on December 1 and 2.

Later, seeing a change in her daughter's behavior, her mother filed a case at Dewanganj Police Station on December 8, 2020. After investigation, police submitted a charge sheet to the court on May 5, 2021. During the trial, after reviewing the testimony and evidence of 10 people and finding the allegation proven, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment. The prosecution expressed satisfaction with the verdict.
