Planting 25 crore trees in 5 years is not ambitious; public engagement is needed: Public Administration Adviser
The target of planting 25 crore trees in the next five years is not an ambitious programme. Prime Minister's Public Administration Adviser Md. Ismail Zabihullah remarked that this target can be achieved through collective efforts and spontaneous public participation. He said this while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the 'One Lakh Tree Plantation in One Day' programme, organized by the district administration under the government's priority programme at the Jamiatul Falah Eidgah premises in Chattogram city on Tuesday (27 October).

This member of BNP's National Standing Committee said planting should not be limited to formalities; a social movement must be built for the care and conservation of trees. He said that since the government led by Prime Minister Tariq Rahman took office, it has started working to implement the election manifesto. In the meantime, initiatives such as waiving agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000, family cards, farmers' cards, and canal excavation have been taken. He also said that against the target of planting 25 crore trees in five years, 26,394,428 trees had been planted until last July.
