4,000 MW of solar power to be added to the grid next year: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tarek Rahman said that to increase the use of solar power, there are plans to initially allocate a fund of BDT 1,500 crore and to purchase excess solar power generated under the net metering system at Tk 10.50 per unit. He said this at the opening ceremony of Bangladesh Solar Expo-2026 on Tuesday (3 November) morning at the China Friendship Conference Center.

The Prime Minister said, targets have been set to generate 20 percent of the country's total electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030 and 30 percent by 2040. If everything goes according to plan, he expressed hope that 3,000 to 4,000 MW of solar power could be added to the national grid before the start of the summer season. He called for solar power generation on unused rooftops of government and private institutions, educational institutions, and homes.

He also mentioned the formulation of ‘Special Solar Power Installation Ordinance-2026’ to facilitate the expansion of solar power.
