The Prime Minister said, targets have been set to generate 20 percent of the country's total electricity demand from renewable sources by 2030 and 30 percent by 2040. If everything goes according to plan, he expressed hope that 3,000 to 4,000 MW of solar power could be added to the national grid before the start of the summer season. He called for solar power generation on unused rooftops of government and private institutions, educational institutions, and homes.
In addition, the Prime Minister mentioned the initiative to allocate BDT 500 crore annually to the startup sector to encourage innovative initiatives by young entrepreneurs, alongside the gradual conversion of electric irrigation pumps to solar-powered pumps to reduce farmers' production costs. He also mentioned the formulation of ‘Special Solar Power Installation Ordinance-2026’ to facilitate the expansion of solar power.
