Political conspiracy behind ongoing violence in garment industry: Home Minister
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed remarked that what is currently happening in the garment industry is not a normal movement; rather, it is a planned political conspiracy to destabilize the country by using ordinary workers. He said this while briefing journalists after an inter-ministerial meeting at the Secretariat this afternoon, Wednesday (November 4).

The Home Minister said there are no unresolved demands of the workers. A wage board has been formed, and work is underway with the aim of implementing the new wage structure from January 1 next. Yet, in the name of a movement, outsiders and non-workers are carrying out attacks and vandalism. Investigations have shown that the political agenda of several garment owners, former ministers and MPs from the previous Awami League government is behind this. At the same time, the government has ordered that conspiracies by mafia and reactionary groups operated from a neighboring country be suppressed with an iron hand.

Noting that law enforcement agencies are dealing with the situation with utmost patience, the Home Minister called on ordinary workers not to listen to rumors and to return to their workplaces. In response to a question about the detention of journalist Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, he said legal action is being taken against him because there are specific allegations. Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam were present at the briefing.
