ICAPP's 13th General Assembly inaugurated in Seoul, Md. Ismail Jabeeullah elected Vice Chairperson
The 13th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), Asia's largest international platform of political parties, has been inaugurated in Seoul. At the session, Md. Ismail Jabeeullah, head of the BNP delegation, member of the party's National Standing Committee and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Administration, was elected Vice Chairperson.

He spoke at the first plenary session after the inauguration at The Shilla Hotel in Seoul on Thursday morning, jointly hosted by South Korea's ruling Minjoo (Democratic) Party and the opposition People Power Party.

Referring to the theme 'Rebuilding Trust in a Changing World' as timely, Jabeeullah said mutual trust must be reestablished for global peace and prosperity. Democracy is not merely an electoral process; it is a social contract between the people and state power—one founded on accountability, transparency, the rule of law and respect for fundamental rights.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, BNP views the people's mandate not as an opportunity to exercise power but as a responsibility to serve the public, and believes in peace through dialogue, not conflict. Expressing concern over the humanitarian catastrophe in the Middle East, including Palestine, he called for upholding the dignity of human life above geopolitical interests and applying international policy uniformly and without discrimination in all cases.

Proposing that ICAPP build effective mechanisms to prevent interference in other countries' domestic politics, he called for a common strategic policy paper for developing countries to address the risks of artificial intelligence, fairness in climate finance, and initiatives to protect young people's mental health.

The conference will run until November 6, with a program on November 7 for delegates to visit cultural and historical sites.
