Leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance faced police obstruction while marching towards the Secretariat to protest the fuel oil and gas crisis, 'phantom electricity bills', deterioration of law and order, and unchecked price hike of daily necessities. At that time, in front of the Secretariat, the opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer said, 'We did not come to disrespect anyone, we came with the people's demands.'
On Thursday (August 6) at around 12:45 pm, when they reached the front of the Secretariat, police obstructed their march. Later, he gave a brief speech there.
He said, ‘Today this program is being held not only in Dhaka but across Bangladesh. We believe in peaceful movement. We have come in front of the Secretariat to deliver the people's demands to the elected representatives.’
