Senior Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir has remarked that any initiative to amend the constitution by force of power, excluding those who shed blood in the August 5 mass uprising, will by no means be sustainable. He said this at a discussion meeting organized by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the National Press Club on Sunday (October 25).
Raising questions about the jurisdiction of the current Constitution Amendment Committee, he said, This initiative, taken unilaterally by excluding the main forces of the July Revolution, risks being annulled just like the Awami League's 15th Amendment. He described such an amendment, excluding those who participated in the revolution, as merely ‘showing the force of power’.
