Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon journalists to remain united to protect their own rights and ensure media freedom.

He said responsible and objective journalism can play an important role in the welfare of the country and the nation.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at a meeting with journalists at the Mirza Ruhul Amin Auditorium in Thakurgaon today (Friday) afternoon. This meeting was organized on the initiative of Thakurgaon Press Club.
Mirza Fakhrul said journalism is a very difficult and challenging profession. There is no place where journalists have not been subjected to torture. The mystery of the Sagar-Runi murder case has not been solved yet.

Addressing journalists, the BNP Secretary General said that before publishing news, the statement of the accused or the opposite party must be taken. Extensive study is also necessary for objective journalism.
He further said that due to lack of unity among journalists, many do not get fair wages according to the wage board.
Calling for unity instead of division, the Local Government Minister said that a new opportunity has been created in the country after the July uprising, and this opportunity must be utilized to work for the country and the people.
