Criticizing BNP, Nahid Islam said that in 2006 too, the party tried to install its own people in the caretaker government and failed. Alleging that freedom of expression is being undermined in the country at present, he said that 22 people have been arrested in the past few months over expressing opinions on social media. Among them is a woman who was arrested for criticizing voting for BNP in Mymensingh.
Commenting that a new authoritarian tendency is being created in the country, the NCP leader said that if it is not stopped at the beginning, the people will have to suffer its consequences. Expressing doubt about the fairness of the upcoming local government elections, he warned that if there is any kind of rigging in the election, BNP will not be able to complete its five-year term.
