EC begins preparations for local government elections: Mirza Fakhrul in Parliament
Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the Election Commission (EC) has already begun necessary preparations to hold the local government elections in a free, fair and impartial manner. He said the commission is working on preparations to organize a participatory and acceptable election within the stipulated time.

On Tuesday, the Local Government Minister, who is responsible for election commission-related matters in the national parliament, disclosed this information in response to a question from Sheikh Md. Rezaul Islam, Member of Parliament for the Naogaon-6 constituency. The matter was raised during the question-and-answer session chaired by Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal.

The minister said the Election Commission has taken necessary administrative and technical preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of local government elections.

Meanwhile, in response to a question from NCP Member of Parliament Abul Hasnat (Hasnat Abdullah), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that to ensure the voting rights of expatriate Bangladeshis, the Election Commission has introduced a voter registration system through IT-supported postal ballots for the first time. This initiative will continue in the next national election, and the commission is working to bring more expatriate voters under this system.

On the other hand, in response to a question from Abdul Karim, Member of Parliament for the Gaibandha-2 constituency, he said the government currently has no plans to increase the salaries and allowances of Union Parishad chairmen and members.

Additionally, the Local Government Minister said that according to the provisions of the District Council Act, 2000, the elected Members of Parliament of the respective districts will serve as advisors to the district council and will provide necessary advice in conducting the council's activities.
