Police return to dark blue-khaki uniform, new attire effective from today
There has been another change in the police uniform. From Wednesday (July 1), police members across the country have started performing their duties wearing the newly designated dark blue and light olive-colored shirts and khaki-colored pants. This decision has been implemented as part of the reorganization of police attire following the change of government. During the inauguration of the newly built Barkatullah Police Camp in the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) Purbachal New Town project, police officers were seen in the new uniform. At the event, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir wore a dark blue shirt and khaki pants, while Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Mosleh Uddin Ahmed wore a light olive-colored shirt and khaki pants.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP Media and Public Relations Division, Niaz, said that the new uniform has been worn from Wednesday. However, the attire has not yet reached all members. Gradually, everyone will receive the new uniform and perform their duties.

It is noteworthy that after the political change on August 5, 2024, the decision to change the uniform was taken as part of the demand for police reform. Accordingly, from November 25 last year, police members started wearing iron-gray shirts and coffee-brown gray pants. However, that uniform received mixed reactions among field-level members.

Later, after the BNP-led government took charge, an initiative was taken to reconsider the police attire. In continuation of this, on June 18, the Police Headquarters issued a new notification, bringing changes to the color and design of the uniform.

According to the new directive, for district police and members of units other than APBn, SPBn, Special Branch (SB), CID, and RAB, the trousers will be made of khaki-colored TC twill fabric, and the shirt will be made of dark blue TC plain fabric. The shirt will have four pockets and seven buttons in the front.

Additionally, changes have been made to the attire of female police members. They can wear a dark blue saree if they wish. For district police, the provision is to wear a dark blue blouse with a dark blue saree, and for metropolitan police, a light olive-colored blouse with a dark blue saree. Provision has also been made to use an approved dark blue head covering if necessary.

The notification further stated that half-sleeve shirts must be worn in summer and full-sleeve shirts in winter. Female members working in the traffic unit can wear full-sleeve attire throughout the year. Additionally, during pregnancy, female police members will have the opportunity to wear ordinary clothes subject to the approval of the respective unit head.
