July Memorial Museum to be inaugurated on August 5
Ending a long wait, the 'July Memorial Museum', built to preserve the memory of the student movement, will be inaugurated on August 5. The museum is planned to be opened to the general public immediately after the inauguration.

The decision was made on Wednesday (July 1) at a meeting held in the conference room of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs at the Secretariat, organized to observe July Mass Uprising Day-2026 and inaugurate the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum. The meeting was chaired by Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury.

The museum features various photographs, video footage, rare documents, preserved newspaper reports, materials used in the movement, personal memorabilia of martyrs and injured individuals, clothing, banners, placards, and other historical artifacts from the July movement. Additionally, the flow of events, important moments, and eyewitness experiences of the movement will be presented through multimedia and digital displays. An information-based archive has also been preserved for researchers and visitors.

According to those concerned, the museum is not just a place for remembrance; rather, it will serve as an important center to present the history, sacrifice, and struggle of the July movement to the new generation.

After the meeting, Tanjim Wahab, Director General of the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum, said that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the relevant implementing agencies are completing the final preparations ahead of the inauguration. The addition of exhibition materials, security arrangements, visitor management, and the installation of digital content are almost complete.

It is noteworthy that although the inauguration of the museum was announced multiple times during the interim government, it was not implemented for various reasons. Now, with the inauguration on August 5, that wait is set to end.
