On Friday (July 3) morning, two local teenagers saw a body floating in the Dhalai River and brought it to the shore by boat. Later, police, BGB, and local administration members arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and took it into the custody of Companiganj Police Station.
The deceased, Dr. Subrata Saha, was a resident of Ramgati upazila in Lakshmipur and the son of Mihir Lal Saha. He had come from Dhaka with three friends to visit various tourist spots in Sylhet.
Earlier, on Thursday (July 2) afternoon, he went missing after entering the Dhalai River to bathe at the zero point area of Sada Pathar. According to eyewitnesses, when four friends entered the river near the BGB camp area, they were caught in a strong current. Two managed to reach the shore, but Subrata Saha was swept away by the current and submerged, after which no trace of him was found.
Inspector Abdul Kayum of the Bholaganj Tourist Police said that a rescue operation began immediately after receiving the news. Fire service divers tried for a long time, but the rescue efforts were hampered by the strong current. Later, as darkness fell, the operation was suspended around 7 pm on Thursday. On Friday morning, the body surfaced in the river.
The body has been sent to the morgue of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companiganj Police Station, Shafiqul Islam Khan, said that the body of the missing doctor has been recovered. After legal procedures, the body will be handed over to the family.
