Shelltek to invest Tk 1,504 crore in 5 sectors, creating 45,000 jobs
Shelltek Group has announced a new investment plan of Tk 1,504 crore in the country's agro-processing, real estate, manufacturing, textiles, and renewable energy sectors. The company claims that if these projects are implemented, approximately 45,000 people will be employed directly and indirectly, with a large portion created through contract farming.

Founded in 1988, Shelltek Group has long been operating businesses in real estate, construction, tiles, electric poles, agriculture, garments and textiles, hospitality, and various service sectors. The company stated that the new investment will play a vital role in the country's industrialization, export growth, employment generation, and sustainable economic development. A major portion of the projects will be implemented through self-financing. Additionally, investments will be advanced through joint ventures, bank loans, and foreign financing.

Tanvir Ahmed, Managing Director of Shelltek Group, said that considering the demand for Bangladeshi products in the international market and the country's economic potential, investments are being expanded in various sectors. If these projects are implemented, industrial production, export earnings, and employment will increase significantly.

Major investment in agriculture and exports

In the agro-processing sector, Shelltek Group has invested approximately Tk 400 crore in Spain-Bangladesh Agro Industry Limited. This project, established as a joint venture with Spain, has started production activities in Parbatipur, Dinajpur, and products are being exported to various European Union countries from there.

According to the company, about 40,000 farmers will be involved in contract farming with this project. When operating at full capacity, the target is to achieve annual export earnings of approximately Tk 2,440 crore.

New expansion in real estate

In the real estate sector, Tk 575 crore will be invested to construct a 17-story modern shopping complex named 'Shelltek Legacy Plaza' in the capital's Banshree area. This building, with approximately two lakh square feet of commercial space, is planned to be built as an international standard LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building.

Additionally, work is underway to implement 21 housing projects with a joint investment of Tk 265 crore in the Jalshiri residential area.

Initiatives to increase capacity in manufacturing and textiles

An investment of Tk 85 crore has already been completed in Grindtech Limited, the country's only abrasive paper manufacturer in Sylhet.

On the other hand, a plan has been taken to invest approximately Tk 179 crore to increase the production capacity of blended yarn at Envoy Textiles Limited. The expansion activities are targeted to be completed by 2027.

Focus on renewable energy

To increase energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, Shelltek Group has planned to install a 10-megawatt solar power generation system at its various industrial facilities. This is an important part of the company's sustainable development strategy.

Currently, Shelltek Group's annual turnover is approximately Tk 6,700 crore. The company hopes that if the new projects are fully implemented, this turnover will increase to Tk 9,200 crore by 2030.

According to stakeholders, Shelltek Group's multifaceted investment will create new opportunities in industrialization, agriculture, exports, employment, and renewable energy sectors. At the same time, it will play a significant role in the country's sustainable economic growth and long-term industrial development.
