Everyone's awareness is essential to make Dhaka livable: Prime Minister
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has emphasized the importance of everyone's awareness and collective initiative to transform Dhaka into a livable city. He said that if everyone works sincerely, a positive change in the current environmental situation is possible.

He said these things in his speech as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of World Environment Day, Environment Fair, and National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair on Thursday.

The Prime Minister said that a radical change in waste management is necessary to protect the environment. The government is in a strict position against deforestation and hill cutting. He also called for planting a tree with the birth of every child.

He said that every citizen must play a responsible role from their respective positions to prevent environmental pollution. Many people in society are still not sufficiently aware of environmental protection. Therefore, he called for accepting the increase of environmental awareness as a social responsibility.

At the event, the Prime Minister awarded the 'National Environment Award-2025' to three individuals and three organizations in recognition of their special contributions to environmental conservation, environmental education and promotion, and research and technology innovation.

At the individual level, Assistant Professor of Alhaj Farhad Ali Memorial Degree College, Md. Hasmat Ali, received the award for his contribution to environmental conservation and pollution control. Md. Monir Hossain was honored for his contribution to environmental education and promotion. For special contributions to research and technology innovation, the award was given to Dr. Abdus Salam, Professor and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Department of Chemistry at Dhaka University.

At the institutional level, Classical Handmade Products BD Limited was honored for its special contribution to environmental conservation and pollution control. The Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences at Chittagong University received the award for environmental education and promotion. Additionally, the Bangladesh Jute Research Institute received the National Environment Award for its contribution to environmental research and technology innovation.
