Speaking to patients with a smile is also part of treatment: Health Minister
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Sakawat Hossain said that a doctor's sincerity and smiling conversation can make a patient half healthy. Therefore, he urged doctors to ensure humane behavior towards patients in addition to prescribing medicine.

He said these things as the chief guest at the event organized on the occasion of the 81st founding anniversary of Dhaka Medical College on Saturday (July 11).

The Health Minister said, medicine is not just a profession, it is one of the greatest means of human service. People place the most trust in a doctor during the most critical times of their lives. Therefore, the ethics, humanity, and service mentality of doctors must be strengthened.

He said, a doctor's good behavior, empathy, and respectful attitude have a positive impact on the patient's recovery. Patients must be served following medical ethics and professional morality.

Sharing his own career experiences, Sardar Sakawat Hossain said, one must develop a mentality of giving, not just taking, in life. At the beginning of his career, he learned to spend a portion of his monthly salary for the welfare of society, which inspired him to work for people.

Praising the role of doctors, he said, during the Corona pandemic, measles outbreak, and recent floods, the country's doctors have shown extraordinary responsibility. Providing medical services by standing by the affected people, ignoring holidays, is a shining example of their humanity.

Referring to the recent floods in Chattogram, he said, doctors were seen working in the field even late at night. Such dedication reflects the true identity of doctors.

Highlighting the government's health sector development plans, the Health Minister said, the current government is giving the highest priority to healthcare. Necessary modern equipment is being supplied for medical education and research. He also informed that an initiative has been taken to supply modern microscopes at a cost of about 80 to 90 lakh taka within a short time after students apply to a medical college.

He said, development activities will start from next month to make community clinics, upazila hospitals, and family welfare centers more modern and effective. The government's goal is to reduce the disparity in healthcare between the capital and rural areas and ensure equal medical services across the country.

Addressing the doctors, the Health Minister said, people in villages, like those in Dhaka city, have the right to receive equal quality medical services. Therefore, equal healthcare must be ensured for every citizen of the country.

He further said, the government is implementing the legitimate demands of doctors step by step and will continue to do so in the future. However, any delay in serving the people is unacceptable. From the moment of obtaining the certificate as a doctor, one must dedicate oneself to the welfare of the people.

Emphasizing punctuality, professional ethics, and humane behavior, the Health Minister said, if doctors maintain these qualities, they will become more respected and honored among the people of the country.
