He said these things during a courtesy meeting with the South Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh, Kim Ji-jun, at his office in the Secretariat on Monday (July 13).
The minister said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's goal is to deliver affordable smartphones and digital services to people in remote areas of the country. Along with expanding digital connectivity, the government is also working to ensure smart devices are within the reach of the common people.
He further said that the government considers the mobile phone manufacturing and technology industry as a national priority sector. Necessary policy support will be provided to increase domestic production, create employment, and enhance the capacity of the technology sector. The government's goal is to turn Bangladesh into an important regional hub for smart device manufacturing and technology investment.
During the meeting, South Korean Ambassador Kim Ji-jun praised the investment potential in Bangladesh. At the same time, he proposed introducing a long-term and easier visa system for foreign investors. According to him, this will further strengthen Bangladesh's investment-friendly environment and make it easier to attract foreign investment.
Regarding this, the minister said that the government is working to make the visa process easier and more effective for foreign investors and businesspeople. Necessary policy reforms will be adopted for this purpose to make investment and business operations in Bangladesh easier.
At the end of the meeting, both sides expressed optimism about expanding cooperation and implementing joint initiatives in various areas of mutual interest.
At that time, the Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, Bilkis Jahan Rimi, First Secretary of the South Korean Embassy, Lee Namsoo, and Country Manager of Samsung Electronics, Jangmin Jung, were present.
