The accident occurred around 4:00 PM on Monday (July 13) near Ishwardi Bypass Station on the Ishwardi-Dhaka-Parbatipur railway line.
Abu Hena Mostafa Alam, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Pakshi Division of West Zone Railway, confirmed the matter.
According to sources in the Pakshi Divisional Transport Department of Railways, eight wheels of two coaches of the Dhaka-bound Panchagarh intercity Ekota Express derailed just before entering Ishwardi Bypass Station. As a result, train movement between Dhaka and the northern region was temporarily halted.
DRM Abu Hena Mostafa Alam said that a relief train from the Ishwardi Locomotive Diesel Factory has reached the spot and started rescue operations. Efforts are underway to quickly recover the derailed coaches and restore normal train movement.
He further informed that a five-member investigation committee has been formed, headed by Divisional Transport Officer (DTO) Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan of Pakshi Division Railway, to investigate the cause of the accident. The committee has been asked to submit the investigation report within the next three working days.
The other members of the investigation committee are— Divisional Engineer-2 Nazib Kaysar, Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Carriage) Sheikh Asif Ahmed, Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Loco) Rabiul Islam, and Divisional Signal Engineer Ahmed Ishtiaq Zahur.
