Rizvi said that the construction of a road through the haor for commuting to the former president's house has obstructed the natural water flow. As a result, the environment and ecosystem of the haor have been severely damaged.

He said that infrastructures built without considering the environment are not real development. In the past, on the advice of the then Prime Minister, ignoring the opinions of experts, a power plant was constructed at Rampal in the Sundarbans. Thousands of crores of taka have been laundered in these projects in the name of development, and they have had long-term negative impacts on the environment.

Emphasizing the need to keep rivers and haors in their natural flow to maintain ecological balance, Rizvi said that no development achieved by destroying the environment can be sustainable. Therefore, all types of anti-environment development activities must be abandoned.

At that time, State Minister for Land and Hill Affairs Barrister Mir Md. Helal Uddin said that due to the construction of structures by encroaching on canals in various areas, the water drainage system has been obstructed. As a result, rainwater cannot drain quickly, causing public suffering.

He informed that the government has already started eviction drives to free rivers and canals from encroachment. Additionally, the government is working to implement environment-friendly development programs.
