Sheikh Hasina's extradition will be settled according to law: India
Regarding the extradition of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, the Indian government has stated that it is a purely legal matter and a decision will be made according to existing laws. The country's foreign ministry also said that there has been no change in India's position on this matter.

Sheikh Hasina left Bangladesh on August 5, 2024, after the mass uprising. Since then, she has been staying in India. The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced her to death in a case of crimes against humanity related to the July uprising. In this situation, the Bangladesh government has formally requested India to send her back to the country.

In a recent telephone interview with Reuters news agency, Sheikh Hasina said she wants to return to the country next December. She said that party activists are being oppressed and that if she has to die, she wants to do so in her own country.

When asked about this at a regular briefing in New Delhi on Thursday, Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that any extradition is a legal matter and will be resolved according to legal procedures. However, he did not directly comment on Sheikh Hasina's return to the country.

He further stated that there has been no change in India's policy position regarding Sheikh Hasina.

At the same briefing, questions were also raised about India's ongoing development projects in Bangladesh. On this matter, Randhir Jaiswal said that the development cooperation projects between Bangladesh and India are conducted based on mutual discussions, and this cooperation will continue in the future.
