Talented student Sabid battles cancer despite winning Talentpool scholarship, seeks help
Ibn Sabid, a meritorious student from Ishwardi, Pabna, has dreamed since childhood of becoming an engineer at BUET. He told his mother, 'I will be an engineer, and you will be the mother of an engineer.' Pursuing that dream, he achieved a Talentpool scholarship in the 2025 primary scholarship exam. But the joy of the scholarship has been overshadowed by incurable cancer.

Sabid is currently undergoing treatment on a bed at the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital in the capital. He heard the news of winning the Talentpool scholarship while lying in the hospital bed. That moment of joy also brought tears to his family's eyes.

Sabid is the only child of Ashraful Alam Rokon from Diar Sahapur village in Sahapur Union, Ishwardi Upazila, Pabna. He is currently a sixth-grade student at Ishwardi Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS) High School. Previously, he passed the fifth-grade final exam with distinction from Char-Sahapur Government Primary School.

His teachers said that Sabid secured first place in his class every year from first to fifth grade. Shortly after taking the primary scholarship exam, he suddenly fell ill. Later, through various tests, cancer was detected in his body.

Sabid's father, Ashraful Alam Rokon, works as a laborer at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project. According to doctors, Sabid needs long-term treatment to recover and return to normal life. But bearing the cost has become extremely difficult for the family.

Mother Liza Khatun said, 'At a time when my son should be busy with books and studies, we are running to the hospital with medical papers. Struggling to treat our only child, the family is now spending days in extreme uncertainty.' She also complained of facing various hardships even in receiving hospital treatment.

Locals say Sabid is not only a meritorious student but also a polite, calm-natured child who regularly prays and recites the Quran. His illness has cast a shadow of sorrow over the entire area.

Upazila Social Services Officer Atiqur Rahman said there are opportunities for assistance from the Department of Social Services for cancer patients. If the family applies, the matter will be given the highest priority.

The boy who once dreamed of doing something for the country and society now has the biggest dream of recovering and returning to school. Therefore, his family has sought help from the wealthy and humane people of society for Sabid's treatment.
