Local Government Minister Calls for Prioritizing Indigenous Innovation in Mosquito Control
Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for increasing the use of indigenous innovation and technology in mosquito control. He said that many conventional chemicals currently used for mosquito control are not yielding desired results. Therefore, indigenous innovations must be prioritized, new technologies tested and experimented with, and if effective, implemented in practice.

He made these remarks as the chief guest while joining online an event titled 'Mosquito Control Technology' organized by Youth to World at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Ramna, Dhaka, on Monday (July 20) afternoon.

The Local Government Minister said that the new technology being presented using indigenous chemicals for mosquito control is promising. Such innovations must be encouraged, and their effectiveness must be scientifically verified before taking necessary steps.

He said that the season for the spread of dengue and chikungunya is currently underway. During this time, destroying larvae to prevent mosquito breeding is the most important task. Not just killing adult mosquitoes, but effective initiatives must be taken to control larvae at the source.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir further said that if opportunities for experimental application of newly developed technologies are created, joint initiatives by city corporations and innovators could yield positive results in mosquito control. This will accelerate the development of indigenous technology alongside protecting public health.

He called upon city corporations to coordinate with researchers, innovators, and relevant experts to develop effective and sustainable mosquito control systems.
