According to data from Wednesday (July 22) at 6:00 AM, the water level of the Teesta River at the Dalia point in Lalmonirhat was recorded at 52.14 meters. This is just 1 centimeter below the danger level of 52.15 meters.
The Water Development Board (WDB) and local sources said that heavy rainfall in the upstream areas of India and hill runoff have increased the flow of the Teesta River. The rising water has caused fresh concern among residents of char and low-lying areas.
Earlier, at the end of last month, the Teesta's water crossed the danger level, causing short-term flooding. Although the situation improved somewhat later, officials fear the river's water may cross the danger level again due to continued rainfall upstream.
Executive Engineer of the Dalia Water Development Board, Amitav Chowdhury, said the situation of the Teesta River is being monitored round the clock. If rainfall continues upstream, the water level may rise further. Therefore, he advised residents of low-lying and char areas along the river to remain alert.
