The incident occurred on Tuesday (July 21) afternoon. The ill student's name is Mushfiqur Rahman Tuhin. He is a student of the 2025-26 academic year (18th batch) of the Pharmacy department.
According to the allegations, several students of the 2024-25 academic year (17th batch) of the Pharmacy department asked the freshers to appear at a mess in the Bangla Clinic area of Pabna municipal town by 3:30 PM. After arriving there, the seniors questioned them on various topics, pointed out mistakes, spoke loudly, and mentally harassed them.
At one point, Mushfiqur Rahman Tuhin fell ill due to mental stress. According to eyewitnesses, he started sweating excessively and experienced a situation similar to a panic attack. Later, around 8 PM, he was taken to Pabna General Hospital. The doctor there, upon learning of the incident, informed the police.
Subsequently, the university administration, the department chairman, and concerned teachers went to the hospital and spoke with the students. As his physical condition did not improve, Mushfiq was transferred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment around 11 PM.
Among the accused, the names of Sohanur, Sakib, Zahid, Tanim, Yunus, Mushfiq, and Saidur, along with several others from the Pharmacy department, have been mentioned.
Multiple students of the 18th batch said that the seniors called them to the mess, interrogated them on various issues, and created mental pressure. However, they also claimed that no physical torture occurred. According to them, the affected student was already somewhat physically unwell, and his condition deteriorated due to mental stress.
Regarding this matter, attempts were made multiple times to contact several accused students for their comments, but they did not answer their phones. They could not be reached.
University Proctor Professor Dr. Kamruzzaman Khan said, after speaking with the affected students at the hospital, the truth of the ragging incident has been preliminarily confirmed. The matter will be investigated, and necessary action will be taken against the accused according to the university's existing rules.
