President has informed the Prime Minister of his resignation decision earlier
Bangladesh President Md. Sahabuddin may resign on Friday (July 24), according to British news agency Reuters. In a report published on Thursday, the agency, citing three sources, said the President has already decided to resign and informed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman of the matter on Tuesday. A formal announcement may come on Friday.

Reuters, quoting the President's spokesperson, said that according to the constitution, the President's signed resignation letter will become effective as soon as it is submitted to the Speaker of the National Parliament.

The President's Press Secretary Sarwar Alam told Reuters that the President will submit his resignation letter to the Speaker after he returns from a visit to Thailand. Then, until a new President is elected, the Speaker of the National Parliament will act as the acting President according to the constitution.

The report also said that despite multiple attempts to contact the President, no comment was obtained from him. Similarly, no immediate comment was made from the Prime Minister's Office.

Reuters also mentioned that amid speculation of the President's possible resignation, the Speaker of the National Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, is returning from Thailand after cutting short his personal visit.
