Expatriate Welfare Minister announces 100-bed accommodation at Hajj Camp for expatriates
Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury visited the 'Hajj Camp' in Ashkona, Dhaka this morning. During the visit, he announced the introduction of a separate 100-bed accommodation facility at the Hajj Camp for the emergency stay and overnight lodging of prospective expatriates. This initiative is being implemented under the directive of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and at the proposal of the Religious Affairs Minister, through the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment.

The minister said that currently, the 'Wage Earners’ Center' operated by the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment has accommodation for 49 people for the benefit of workers going abroad. However, to reduce the suffering of expatriates during any crisis or sudden flight cancellations, an additional 100 beds will be arranged at the Hajj Camp near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Among these, there will be 50 beds for men and separate 50 beds for women. The entire funding for this initiative will be provided by the 'Wage Earners’ Welfare Board' under the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment.

Referring to the current government's expatriate-friendly policy, Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury said that the current government is fully committed to increasing facilities for expatriates. Flights are often delayed or canceled due to various reasons including war or adverse weather. At such times, expatriates face accommodation crises at the airport; this bed arrangement at the Hajj Camp will largely alleviate their suffering.
